What is Daxxify?
Daxxify, also known as daxibotulinumtoxina-lanm or Daxi, was created by the Nashville-based company Revance Therapeutics Inc, and is a part of a family of neuromodulators that use injections of a small amount of botulinum toxin to smooth wrinkles for a more youthful appearance. In the same way that Botox and Dysport are used to treat dynamic wrinkles, Daxxify is used to treat wrinkles that form as a result of repeated muscle movements. FDA approval has been granted for Daxxify for treating glabellar lines, also known as frown lines, which appear as vertical lines between the eyebrows. Daxxify procedure reduces the appearance of severe frown lines by relaxing the muscles that cause them. The long- lasting nature of Daxxify distinguishes it from Botox and other neuromodulators.

DAXXIFY® was FDA-approved on September 8, 2022, following the largest-ever clinical study for a frown line treatment — involving more than 2,800 participants across different ages and skin types. Clinical trials reported no serious treatment-related side effects, and 96% of patients were satisfied with their results. As with all botulinum toxin products, DAXXIFY® carries a Boxed Warning for distant spread of toxin effect: in rare cases, effects may spread beyond the injection site, causing symptoms such as difficulty swallowing or breathing that can be life-threatening [DAXXIFY Prescribing Information, Boxed Warning; Warnings and Precautions §5.1]. DAXXIFY® is also contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any botulinum toxin preparation or any component of the formulation, and in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site [DAXXIFY Prescribing Information, Contraindications §4]. Using Daxxify, you can smooth dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles form as a result of repeated muscle contraction in a given area. When you smile, you can create smile lines around your mouth and crow’s feet around your eye, while when you frown or furrow the brow, you can create horizontal forehead lines or frown lines between your eyebrows as a result of your facial expressions. During our youth, dynamic wrinkles only appear when we make certain facial expressions, then smooth out when the face is at rest. When we age, dynamic wrinkles are etched into our skin, creating wrinkles even when our faces are still. Aesthetic treatments like Botox and Daxxify, can reverse these tell-tale signs of aging.
The Daxxify procedure involves the injection of the neuromodulator daxibotulinumtoxina-lanm into the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles, working to block the nerve signal that tells the muscle to contract. The muscle can then relax, smoothing out wrinkles in the area and preventing new wrinkles from forming. This anti-wrinkle temporary improvement of the Daxxify can be observed for up to six months, making it one of the longest lasting injectable neuromodulators available on the aesthetic market.
Daxxify is the only long-lasting frown line treatment stabilized by a peptide. Results last on average 6 months and up to 9 months for some. All frown line treatments require a special ingredient to stabilize botulinum toxin A, the protein responsible for helping smooth moderate to severe frown lines. For instance, BOTOX® Cosmetic uses human serum albumin (HSA), a blood product, as its stabilizer. Dysport®, another frown line treatment, uses HSA as a stabilizer and cow’s milk protein as a protectant.
DAXXIFY® is unique because it is the only formulation that uses a novel peptide as a stabilizer and does not contain human or animal byproducts.
In short, no, and here’s why. Units are like fingerprints—they are a proprietary measurement of a treatment’s unique potency. Because of the differences in how treatments are formulated and tested, you cannot compare or convert Units between them, just like you cannot compare 2 fingerprints.
